James Ingham

    MANAGER CYCLE HUB AT UOB

James is our manager at our bike shop based at University of Birmingham. He's the guy you'll see day to day on site. What James doesnt know about bikes isn't worth knowing! James is a passionate cyclist and commuter and a brilliant cycle mechanic, with a vast knowledge of parts and bikes.

Stewart Boyle

                    HEAD OF TRAINING

As one of the founding members of Gear Up I am responsible for the mechanics side of the business, this includes shop based servicing, fleet servicing and pop up servicing. I also help with delivery of "Gear Up 4 Work", led rides and much more!  I am proof of how the Gear Up model can work for unemployed young people, and I am passionate about helping other young people on the same journey.

Dan Sandford-Smith

Branch and Enterprise Manager

My Name is Dan, and I am the branch leader for the charity Worth Unlimited Birmingham who own Gear Up.  I am passionate about seeing young people realise their potential, utilise their gifts and skills and find long term employment, and that is what is at the heart of Gear Up.  Using our passion for cycling alongside working with young people, giving them opportunities for training and employment as well as offering our customers a first class service, and a first class product.

*Please note; we do not service or repair e-bikes that are not compliant with UK law. This is because non-compliant e-bikes are legally classed as motor vehicles, meaning they require type approval, registration, insurance, and a licensed rider to be used on public roads. Working on or modifying such bikes could make us liable for safety and legal issues, including potential breaches of vehicle and product regulations. To protect our customers and ensure we meet our legal and safety obligations, we only work on e-bikes that meet the UK’s Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle (EAPC) standards. This also applies for E-bike conversion kits, with the exception of officialy recognised brands such as Switch for example. Regardless of a booking made, you will be turned away upon arrival should your bike not adhere to this.

*We also reserve the right of refusal to work on on bikes that do not have at least two independently working brakes. This is the legal minimum required to ensure the rider can stop safely and maintain control of the bike. However if the brakes are to be installed/repaired to meet this standard as part of the booked service, this does not apply and will be more than happy to continue with repairs.
